Would like a little background info?
About 3 years ago, I had the opportunity to travel to Japan for a month long homestay at my Uncle Minoru’s home while my son, Nick, stayed at Hisato’s (Hito) home, whom we hosted through LABO the summer before. LABO is a club, similar to scouting with language as a focus- LABO short for language la-bo(ratory). Before going, God gave me the verse Ps 46:10A “Be still and KNOW I AM” SO, while there, one drizzly day, my heart was burdened to go out into my uncle’s ward and pray as I walked the area. Unbeknownst to me, it was my first prayerwalk
When I returned, God kept nudging me to Be still. That led to a leap of faith, bringing me home from the paid work force for the first time ever in my life! During that time, I starting searching for a missions organization that serviced the specific area God had laid on my heart- Tokyo and Yokohama. After a bit of trial and error, I landed at OMF. And unbeknownst to me, they were just birthing their volunteer program called BridgeAsia. After much prayer and reading Hudson Taylor’s bio, I applied for the Prayer Leader position for Japan. Here in MA, there was little interest in Japan and I struggled to get a regular prayer meeting going. Instead, I found myself sharing my heart’s burden with anyone who would listen! I ended up hosting events that had Japan as a focus. Last March, I was invited back to Japan to celebrate my friend Yasuko’s 40th year of running a LABO group! While there, I made a trip to Ichikawa, Tokyo where OMFs headquarter’s is. Speaking and praying with Steve Weemes, the ServeJapan coordinator, the prayerwalk trip was birthed. Prayerwalking is the culmination of a prayer group, so fulfilling this trip will close the door on my time as the “Prayer Leader” for Japan.
Praying and sharing has brought this ragtag team together! We have 4 from MA and 3 from SC. We are 3 men and 4 women from a variety of backgrounds. ~~~Cheryl
